Combining strong aesthetics with maximum comfort, Key is an intuitive chair that can be easily adjusted to suit the individual.
The ergonomics of Key not only satisfy current health and safety work standards but also address the problems associated with usability. If the operator does not understand how to use the chair, the ergonomics cease to operate in the way they were intended. The dimensional requirements of the working population vary enormously.
Key overcomes the limitations of this problem by ensuring that the adjustments exceed the standard equirements. Boss has developed a new thoracic support system that works in harmony with the fully synchronised tilt to maintain user alignment and reduce back pain. The back's contour is designed specifically for Boss's new thoracic support system.
This new theory is ratified by FIRA in-house ergonomist, Levant Caglar. To maintain the lumbar curve which keeps the intervertebral discs under uniform pressure, the chair's back has been uniquely developed to support the trunk of the body (thorax) to avoid the deterioration of the lumbar curve from the user's own body weight. The Key product range utilises Boss's expertise in upholstery and engineering to ensure longevity in the working environment and reduce overall cost of ownership.
Features
1 Back support and back height adjustment
The back contour is designed specifically for Boss's new thoracic support system ratified by FIRA providing correct lumbar support.
2 Comfort
As with all Boss products this is a primary target. If the user is not comfortable then we have an unsatisfactory solution. All the foams are moulded and tested in relation to the firmness to provide the right amount of support.
3 Optional name card holder
At the base of the back there is a unique name card holder allowing for corporate or individual identification. An instruction booklet is also attached ensuring it is the first thing the new user sees.
4 Multi adjustable armrests
These are fully adjustable allowing for 180 degrees of movement to adapt to various users. They are also height adjustable to maintain a comfortable elbow orientation. The soft-touch pads are made from polyurethane and resistant to damage when contacting desks etc. Some chairs are so narrow that users' hips come in to contact with arm posts causing pressure, pinching and occasional numbness after long periods of seated work. Key is available with the option that allows adjustment of the entire arms away from the seat pan to create extra room
for movement.
5 Seat
The seat alters in depth via a button located on the right hand side of the chair. The length of the thigh varies from one person to another irrespective of height. This is therefore an important adjustment to ensure that the chair is set up perfectly for the individual. The waterfall edge is conducive to good blood flow while seated because it reduces undue pressure on the back of the legs.
6 Adjustment
If the operator does not understand how to use the chair, the ergonomics cease to operate in the way they were intended. All adjustments are designed to be tactile and pleasant to touch and with clear instructions to ensure easy navigation in setting up and using the chair.
7 Gas column
Consistent with our high reputation for quality, we chose to use the German manufacturer Stabilus.
8 Castors
These are large in diameter for ease of movement.
Environment
Boss is passionate about caring for the environment.
The Key chair was designed with the ‘Environment in Mind’ in conjunction with Will Reading M.D. of Environmental Connections Ltd assuring the primary elements of material, manufacturing, packaging and recyclability meet with the company’s environmental policy and are environmentally friendly.
A thorough analysis was carried out to assess the impact to the environment throughout the chair's lifecycle utilising traditional material with the aim of identifying and ultimately reducing the number of non recyclable materials used in its construction.
Natural colouring of plastic components and the move to use VOC free paints and adhesives are elements of the clean manufacturing technology employed by Boss.
Under certain conditions at the end of the chair's useful life, Boss is able to ‘close the loop’ by taking back the product and arrange for its reuse or recycling.
The report from Environmental Connections is available upon request.
